Match notes: Rams conference title, revenge vs. Wyoming

The purpose of the Colorado State University Department of Athletics is to recruit, educate, develop and graduate student-athletes within an environment that pursues excellence, values integrity and ethical conduct, promotes respect for all individuals, teaches sportsmanship, entertains our constituents and emphasizes championship performance. On Thursday, in a matchup between the top two teams in the conference standings, the Rams defeated San Diego State thanks to great end-game play. After trailing 18-16, the Rams won the first set on a 9-3 run. There were 12 total ties and six lead changes in the set. In the second set, after tying the score at 11-11, the Aztecs played on their heels, thanks to junior Brieon Paige and senior Katelyn Steffan , who recorded several big kills. CSU was able to finish the set on a 14-7 run to take a 2-0 lead into the locker room. The Rams stayed on track in Game 3 with the help of great offense by Steffan, Paige and junior Megan Plourde . CSU finished the match with a hitting percentage of .282 on 40 kills, while holding SDSU to .116 on 37 kills. The difference in the match was blocking. CSU finished the match with 10 blocks, compared to SDSU’s three. Paige led CSU with nine kills on .529 hitting, followed by eight kills apiece by Steffan and Plourde, and a half dozen each from Cranston and Tori Brummett . Plourde led the Rams with six blocks. In addition to the offense, the defense was working exceptionally well, too. UNLV hit just .058 on the day. The Rams also outblocked the Rebels 12.5-2, highlighted by Plourde’s eight, which ties a season best. All eight came in the first two sets. Steffan added five blocks, in addition to four apiece by Paige and setter Deedra Foss . Leading 11-10 in Set 1, the Rams separated themselves with a 12-3 run to gain the advantage. It was a big run again in the second set that put things away.

Students explore their futures at College/Trade Fair | DHS Telegram ...

On Friday October 28, 2011, Dixon High School held its’ 8th annual College/Trade Fair. What exactly is the College Fair? This unique event at DHS allows Junior and Senior students to walk around the cafeteria, where there are many different booths set up. Each one of these booths represents a different college that is near Dixon. At each one of these booths sat one or a few different representatives from that specific school. This was a great oppurtunity for students to talk to specialists from the different colleges around Dixon.

October 28, 2011 was a minimum day for all DHS students due to the College Fair. Each class was about 35 minutes long, much shorter than students were used to. This included no breaks, no lunch, and school ended at 12:25. On Friday, the upperclassmen were brought to the cafeteria during their English class. Since each class was only 35 minutes long, the students did not get very long to spend looking at their desired colleges. However, some students were able to spend their time wisely and efficiently.

At the College Fair, there were 20 different colleges. There were vocational schools, community colleges, CSU’s, a UC, a private universtiy, and different branches of the US Military. Seeing as there were so many different options, it was hard for the students to visit all of them. At each station, the colleges had their own little display. Many of the displays had personalized pens, lanyards, or other little toys that students found fascinating. These “toys” attracted students, which is how the colleges were able to talk to them. There were a total of 7 career, technical, and vocational schools. This included the Blake Austin College, Carrington College, Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, The Art Institutes, The California Academy; A Paul Mitchell Partner School, Universal Technical Institute, and Wyotech. Many of these schools had to do with more of the “art” aspects of a career, or a career that has to do with cosmotology. Of course there are many students who dream of going into these fields, which is why these schools were there.
