Keeping Learning Well-Oiled
Most car owners know that having the oil changed in their cars every three months or 3000 miles. Last year, Jiffy Lube International (JLI) has served 22 million customers who have done just that.
Employee training and development plays an essential role in the preparation of 21 000 workers in more than 2,000 U.S. franchise to provide consistent, correct technical services with a strong emphasis on customer satisfaction.Although some of this training is required by the policies and procedures governing the franchise, JLI, a wholly owned subsidiary of Shell Oil Corporation, did not need a warrant lots of it.
"Training is not a hard sell," said Kenneth Barber, director of learning and development for the past five years. "The franchisees are eager for training, and just as committed as we are. There is no repression. "
Jiffy Lube University (JLU), under the name of a corporate university in 2009, offers 60 courses including 10 certifications.Training courses on customer service, management, technical procedures and service standards are based on procedures and practices agreed by franchisees and business.
All employees have the training course and obtain certification at certain stages during their job tenure. For example, all technicians must be certified in safety and knowledge of the product within 30 days after hiring. They get a glimpse of their progress through the road map, the portal for learners in the management system of learning. Over 150 hours of training are available in the first year of the employee.A gas gauge shows the progress of an employee, while store managers are color coded LMS reports that show the overall progress of their location in relation to requirements.
Over 95 percent of the training content is available online, on demand. Once a course is completed, employees take an online test to demonstrate mastery of knowledge, and then the managers provide coaching to ensure transfer of learning. They use daily training and observation guides created for each service. Students must pass a qualifying exam to become certified.

How Do You Define Employees? | Human Resources
"How many employees your organization?"
I recently got involved in a conversation at work with a couple of managers that the employee actually was. It seems that we had differing views on the subject - and it made me think, how could others in the HR world define an employee?
What began as a very narrow perspective in the definition of employees, opened to reveal a wide range of views.
You should evaluate this carefully, the problem and methods have many different versions. Our discussion has made us all realize that the answer would depend on who you ask it. On the surface, being asked first to define what an employee is, I suspect most of us give what is known as the common legal definition, which is: "A person who is hired by another person or company for a wage or fixed payment in exchange for personal services and not providing services as part of a self-employed; Any person employed by an employer. "
If you were then asked how many employees your organization, the answer might vary from one person in human resources, someone from a specific department, and again, if you ask someone payroll.
For example, in an HR perspective, the general definition of an employee would more than likely everyone who is connected to the organization in any manner that could be affected by the privacy law, human rights legislation employment standards and recruitment and retention.
As the human resources department that will be needed to manage the resources of the "people" in an organization, they could also consider the number of employees in the management of absenteeism, retirement, skill sets for the planning succession and sales and promotional opportunities.
How to set staff pay of an employee?
I think their reaction would be to define an employee with those on the payroll, if employees are hourly, salaried or paid by the piece, full time or part time, etc. And if they have all kinds of benefits covered by the company.Their considerations are based on different laws as well as Employment Insurance, Revenue Canada, employment standards and collective agreements, etc.
