On Preps: Is this the year for Huskies football?

Being competitive can't be the standard any more if the Huskies are going where they want to go. Battle Mountain needs to find a way to win those overtime games against Moffat County and Delta. Yes, there were some calls in the Moffat game that will get coach David Joyce going some 10 months later. Sure, the Huskies played in a monsoon in Delta. It doesn't matter. Battle Mountain will be a pass-oriented offense, and I'm good with that. (I grew up with the sainted Joe Montana and Bill Walsh.) Please don't get too pass-happy, though. This line can move people and whomever goes at running back can fly. There will be times when eating the clock is key. There will be times (Delta, read weather) when it's just easier to run. Don't forget the ground game. Then there's Classical Academy, Glenwood Springs and Palisade. TCA is an important game because the Slope doesn't get a guaranteed number of spots in the state tournament. If you don't win the Slope, you need to get to the playoffs by wild card points and this is the Huskies only chance to mix it up with a Front Range team. (It's not fair, but it's reality.

American Momentum Bank to acquire Brazos Valley ... - The Eagle

American Momentum Bank, founded in Florida in 2006 by Bryan businessman Don Adam, announced Saturday that it has struck a deal to acquire Brazos Valley Bank of College Station.

The acquisition is "the first of many steps" Momentum will be taking to expand its presence in the Brazos Valley and Texas, said Momentum president Frank Varisco.

The purchase of Brazos Valley Bank will give Momentum three banking centers in Bryan-College Station, including the recently opened Momentum Plaza at the corner of Copperfield Parkway and University Drive in College Station.

Brazos Valley has $127 million in assets and two locations, on Highway 6 South in College Station and on Villa Maria near its intersection with Briarcrest in Bryan.

No details were disclosed regarding a purchase price, and the sale is subject to approval by shareholders of the privately held institutions and federal regulators.

John Godfrey, the interim president of Brazos Valley Bank, said he doesn't see a downside to the acquisition.

"The good thing is that American Momentum will be keeping both branches open and fully staffed," he said.

Layoffs are not expected, but Godfrey said he will be leaving the bank to turn his full attention back to his construction business.

Details about the cost of the deal will be presented to shareholders, most likely in July, Godfrey said. Investigators with the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of Currency and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. will have to approve the plan.

Godfrey estimated the deal will be complete by September.

Momentum CEO and chairman Adam said in a news release that Brazos Valley Bank is a "great strategic fit" for his bank and that its acquisition underscores Momentum's long-term commitment to the community.

Momentum, which Adam founded in Tampa with $100 million in start-up capital, opened its College Station branch in 2009.
