Deleting charcoal canister - Jeep Wrangler Forum
Ok so the po of my jeep has nothing hooked up to the charcoal canister. Well I have a lot of fuel tank pressure for that when I drive her a few miles I can take the gas cap off and the pressure is insane. I have 90 jeep yj with a 84 258 engine Holley carb and hei dist. Now the problem I'm having is every once in a while on the highway the jeep starts stumbling "example like I use my gas pedal like a bass drum " alot of jerking otherwise. So I can't find any vented gas caps that fits so I decided to drill a hole straight thru the cap well that was prior to me figuring how a vented gas cap works. So I still need a vented gas cap. Any advice . I live in fl no emissions here It was all removed from mine too. Just connect the out port to the PCV vac line, the fuel vent to one of the others, and plug the rest. You are no longer using it for emmissions, so it is simply a fuel vapor filter. The PO of my YJ solved the pressure problem by pulling the vent tubes off the top on the fuel tank... They were not too bright, this was one of many "farm engineering" fixes that I have corrected. I have 93 YJ 4.0 and have similar fuel tank pressure issues and the bucking you talked about. Don't know for sure what the issue is yet but when I dropped the fuel tank to replace fuel pump (after trying just about everything else to get the bucking to stop and replacing the gas cap hoping to reduce the pressure) I found a kink in the vent line. In about 8 weeks when i can get back to it after recovering from a run-in with my pocket knife I will put it all back together without the kink in the line and let you know if that fixes it. BTW, My charcoal canister appears to still be hooked up stock. I have 93 YJ 4.0 and have similar fuel tank pressure issues and the bucking you talked about.
