Hello from Idaho!

Years ago, I rescued a wild starling. He had a badly shattered wing and other wounds, and was a breeding age adult- full feathers and breeding plumage. He became an almost instant pet, and tamed up very quickly to become my best friend and the focus of my life. The wing healed crookedly and he never regained his ability to fly, however, he could hop and flap. He was an incredibly happy boy, and he loved me very much. However, my mother decided he had diseases and put him outside into a large parrot cage with widely spaced iron bars. He either fell or got his head pulled through by a predator, and he broke his neck. He stayed alive, waiting for me, until I found him, and died ten minutes later with horrible seizures. He said his goodbyes, but that didn't make it any better for me. I had lost my very best friend, and I miss Shadow every day even now. Now, three years later, my parents are divorced, and I have the opportunity to get another starling- this time, safely out of my mother's vicious reach. She disapproves heavily, but she has no control over what happens at my dad's house. I am getting a year old, surgically sexed hen. She was parent raised, so not tame yet, but if a wild starling can be tamed, I'm sure this one can. I was lucky enough to have a really cool flight cage that is starling safe fall into my lap from a yard sale, and she arrives next week from a breeder in Kansas. 10 chickens: Ali and Ariel, white leghorns, Sarah, a black frizzle cochin, Violet, a blue cochin, Eleanore, a red EE, Victoria, a buff laced polish, Helen, a partridge silkie, Rumor Has It, a WCB polish cockerel and my baby boy and two nasty birds, an EE roo named Rex and his lovely girlfriend, a Rhode island red named Melonie. Those two are separated from the rest for agression to the other birds, Melonie has nearly killed and Rex is the only bird she'll tolerate, and he tries to kill Rumor.
