Lewis Black brings his topical rants to Mount Pleasant's Soaring Eagle
The school has just begun, said the comedian Lewis Black, and it is already three weeks late.
"Make the first half," he said, bursting into a hoarse laugh. "There are so many things right now, I read all the newspapers - call me old fashioned I am delighted they are still there - and trying to stay on top of everything."
And when Black offers his analysis on the problems of the day "some people do get upset," he admits.
"But nine times out of ten, they listened to the first part of what I said, and they are so angry, they do not listen to the end of the sentence."
Fortunately, he added, "Most realize the person I am on stage is clearly nuts, and all I this, they think I'm funny."
The man behind the routines is clearly not crazy, and the public will see that when Black is Friday, September 16 at the Soaring Eagle in Mount Pleasant.He brought in his connection to Michigan, opening the comedian John Bowman, who grew up in the town of Howard, and his own experience as wide as the voice of disillusionment.
Black is a familiar sight, relying on a career that has included "Lewis Black The Root of All Evil" series and "Back in Black" segments "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" on Comedy Central, and "red , White and Screwed "special on HBO.
He won two Grammy Awards for his comedy album, playing to packed houses in the world and often toured with the USO to entertain troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
And while his angry diatribes are signing today, black roots are in theater. Born in Washington, DC, and grew up in nearby Maryland, he was infected with the virus when he was 12, attending a play with his father. Black went on to earn degrees from the University of North Carolina and the Yale School of Drama before joining the West Bank Café Theater lower bay of New York as its author in residence.
