Freed on a suspended sentence shortly after midnight Saturday, Robinson, 23, allegedly snatched the purse of a Florida woman in the French Quarter about five hours later and tried to shimmy off into the night.

Police, investigating an unrelated incident, saw the victim, Allyson Jordan of Destin, Florida, running down Bourbon Street and shouting, "She stole my purse!"

"The officer observed a black female running w/a black purse ... and turning on Dumaine (Street)," according to the police report.

"The officer apprehended the black female which turned out to be a male in female clothing..."

Police arrested Robinson, who works at a McDonald's and lives in Terrytown, on a purse-snatching charge at 5:36 a.m. He wore a black shirt, blue jeans and a skirt, according to the police report.

Jordan, 48, praised police for their quick response.

"It was as if angels came out from the sky and saved me," she said. "The good news is someone was caught who probably needed to be caught."

Robinson had pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree battery. Orleans Parish Criminal District Judge Karen Herman handed him a three-year suspended sentence that included probation.

He pleaded guilty in 2009 to obscenity, receiving a six month jail sentence. That same year he pleaded guilty to prostitution, receiving a 60-day jail setnence.

Robinson remained jailed in Orleans Parish Monday, donning orange scrubs in lieu of $35,000 bond.
