Five-star garage
If you happen to drive through Rod and Ruby is quiet Coburg Road-area neighborhood, chances are you are going through their garage showroom without a second thought. Except, perhaps, it's a sunny day where Rod has the door open and a couple of his old cars displayed in the driveway.
But even then, you will take just a glimpse of a collection that must be seen to be believed.
Rod and Ruby, who prefer not to share their name here, on two occasions have added to their home in 2400 square feet - the growth of their garage to a total of about 1,600 square feet - with style store their cache of old cars , gas pumps and antique signs, toy cars, 1950 accoutrements dinner and much more.
"People sometimes slow down when they go and try to see" Rod said. "The garage is really unusual in the conduct that people have no idea how far it goes. You can not tell from the street and I like it."
But if you're lucky enough to be invited to visit, your senses will experience a colorful, neon colored, Americana-infused blast from the past the likes of which is rarely seen in a private home.
Revived passion for cars
It all starts with classic cars, which Rod and Ruby began to accumulate when they bought a 1931 Ford Model A luxury coupe in 1998.
Collection accelerated after Rod retired from a career making custom furniture in 2006.In the years since, they have acquired a 1922 Ford Model T Speedster, a 1937 Ford sedan slant back, a 1957 Ford Thunderbird, Volkswagen kit cars and two chassis-based, a 1931 Alpha Romeo "Monza" racer and Frazer 1934 - Nash.
"I've always been into hot rods since I was a kid," Rod said, "but as you grew up and worked, such interest will disappear. After we got the Model A we really get into it.

Last weekend, I attended the YPO Global Summit in Denver, Colorado. As a member of both Vistage and YPO, each organization helps me achieve different professional and personal aspirations. (How they are so different is a good subject for another blog post, but I digress). The conference was a terrific opportunity for CEOs to connect and network, but as many of you may know, it was not free from controversy.
President George W. Bush was scheduled to be the keynote speaker on the closing day of the conference. Certainly there were many members who attended and traveled both from within the U.S. and abroad to hear the former President talk about his time at the White House and address the issues of the day. The day before the scheduled appearance, however, YPO facilitated a conversation via satellite with WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange – a late addition to the conference agenda. Upon hearing that YPO granted Assange an audience at the event, President Bush abruptly canceled. His spokesperson David Sherzer stated, “The former president has no desire to share a forum with a man who has willfully and repeatedly done great harm to the interests of the United States.
