New priest to lead Catholic community

He has served St. Edward, St. George and St. Paul in southeast Seattle, and Sacred Heart, St. Mary and St. Joseph in Battleground.

Ludvik, who was ordained in 1971 in Nebraska, has served in the Valley since 2007

He oversaw the purchase of property at Cascade Golf Course for a larger church in the future.

St. Elias...TODAY!: Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Perpetual Help ...

This last weekend, August 12-14, my wife and I traveled to Olympia, Wa for the annual summer otpust/pilgrimage to the Byzantine Catholic Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help . The Shrine is located on the parish grounds of the Ruthenian Byzantine Catholic Church of St. George. We were joined by our parish Priest, Fr. Robert Pipta, and Joel a member of our young adults group. On Friday evening the pilgrim Clergy and laity celebrated together Vespers and Divine Liturgy at the outdoor Shrine of our Lady of Perpetual Help. Fr Joseph Stanichar from the Byzantine Catholic Church in Seattle gave an inspiring homily on Mary the new Ark of the Covenant and explained the Catholic-Orthodox view on the Theotokos. After the services the pilgrims had a chance to socialize with the Bishop and clergy. Saturday was the main pilgrimage with services all throughout the day. Our day as pilgrims started with Matins in the morning at 9am. Fr. Andrew Miller of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church celebrated Matins. Fr. Robert was very excited that all three young adults from San Diego were praying Matins! Matins is a truly beautiful service. I am glad it is being restored to the liturgical life of the Byzantine Catholic Church. After Matins it was time for the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy. This beautiful service was celebrated by His Grace Bishop Gerald and was a true sign of pan-Greek Catholic Solidarity. Bishop Gerald con-celebrated with priests from the Ruthenian, Melkite, Ukrainian, and Roman Catholic Churches and in prayerful attendance were the Mothers of Holy Theophany Romanian Greek Catholic Monastery. There was close to 100 people at the Liturgy. On Sunday morning Joel and I went to Holy Theophany for Sunday Liturgy. Janette and the sisterhood had already been in Church for over two hours praying matins by the time Joel and I arrived. The Liturgy at Holy Theophany was a masterpiece of Orthodox liturgy.
