SAM MENDES'S “AWAY WE GO” (AMERICAN LIFE)
) è Un film del 2009 diretto da Sam Mendes, scritto dalla coppia di autori Dave Eggers-Vendela Vida, alla loro prima esperienza cinematografica. Ambizioso negli intenti che appaiono sproporzionati rispetto ai mezzi a disposizione, il film di Mendes si risolve, ancora una volta, in una occasione mancata. Evidentemente quella di Revolutionary fa riemergere i peggiori vizi del regista, e cioè la superficialità e la grevità nel trattare argomenti importanti, lo stile patinato (e qui da Sundance nel senso deteriore del termine), gli ammiccamenti sentimentalistici, la colonna sonora "furbetta" di Alexis Murdoch (stile Pearl Jam) e il patetismo di personaggi che si vorrebbero empatici ma che alla fine risultano solo stucchevoli.Certo, come sempre, non tutto è da buttare via anche in questo film, come dimostra la profondità e la sincerità dell'episodio di Montreal, ma per il resto tra personaggi di contorno appena abbozzati e poco più che macchiette e con due protagonisti forzatamente "alternativi" e mai credibili, le buone intenzioni, cioè quelle di raccontare un paese sempre più inospitale, lontano dalle esigenze dei giovani, confuso nel delineare i limiti familiari e affetto da gigantismo senza averne più i mezzi, unito alla visione di genitori sempre più adolescenti e adolescenti sempre più adulti, oltre alle difficoltà di creare una famiglia per chi non ha altri mezzi se non l'amore che li lega, si risolvono in un patetico ritorno a casa coronato dalla banalità dell'affermazione di Verona di fronte alla casa dove è cresciuta: "Non mi ricordavo che fosse così bella".
PICOR Foundation Kicks Off Quest to Raise $35000 for Tucson Youth
For 32 years, the Palo Verde Kiwanis Club sponsored a fall event raising in excess of $300,000 for Tucson charities. In 1994, when the club ceased to operate, PICOR formed a foundation to enable this endeavor to continue for years to come. The 2011 event will be held October 9th in Tucson's Reid Park at Ramada #1 from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm with performances by the Tucson Girls Chorus Ladybugs and youth Mariachi performers. Three bucks buys a full breakfast with all-you-can-eat pancakes, plus sausage and milk, with coffee donated and served by Starbucks. Of course, we're happy to take additional donations for the kids in any amount.
Because PICOR contributes the labor and supplies, 100% of funds raised are donated to youth-serving charities. In 2010 the Pancake Breakfast raised over $33,500 and nearly 1,700 people attended the Breakfast staffed by PICOR employees and their family members. In its 18 years of existence, over $487,500 has been raised and donated to various charities benefiting disadvantaged youth in the Tucson community.
Some of the programs our 2010 grants supported provided basic needs to children such as diapers, blankets, shoes, and clothing; school supplies; books and literacy; arts program scholarships; teen homeless and pregnancy interventions and much more.
Our goal is to reach out to those charities that are generally lesser known within the community and/or those where our grants up to $3,000 will have the largest impact.
Donors who contribute $150 or more receive recognition in a full-page ad paid for by PICOR Commercial Real Estate and receive 60 tickets to the Pancake Breakfast. Patrons donating $300 or more are recognized on a poster displayed at the event and receive a minimum of 120 tickets. Donors who give $600 are considered benefactors, receiving 240 tickets and recognition in print media advertisement following the event.
