Hail hits Brisbane suburbs as storms sweep through southeast Queensland
"The immediate threat of severe thunderstorms has passed, but the situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary," it said.
The bad weather disrupted flights into and out of Brisbane Airport earlier this evening, with "a number of flights diverted", a Virgin spokeswoman said.
She said "under 10" flights had had been diverted to regional airports while pilots waited for conditions to clear.
Services were expected to be operating as normal as the weather moved off the east coast.
At 9.25pm, Energex reported nearly 2000 homes were without power around the state, including over 1500 in the Logan area.
Hail has pelted homes at Pullenvale and surrounding suburbs.
Pullenvale resident Allison said it hailed over her home around 3.45pm.

``As far as hail goes it was the good kind, small, so it doesn’t break or dent anything,’’ she said.
``It was one of the bigger coverages of hail we’ve ever seen out here and it filled up all the gutters.
``It’s slowly turning to something like a slush puppy, though now.’’
Alison said the storm came without warning, and there was barely any wind before it started to hail.
``It was loud but it was only small hail and normally we get them much bigger,’’ she said.
There also were reports of hail and very strong winds at Goodna.
``There’s a few fairly decent cells getting going, all moving in different directions,’’ meteorologist Rick Threlfall said.
``One’s to the west of Archerfield at the moment and some getting going just to the north of the Wivenhoe area.
``They are a bit erratic at the moment, they are not going in the same direction, which makes issuing warnings quite difficult.

Brisbane will be coldest this weekend- Weather Beureau | Study ...
You might want to get the best and warmest winter clothing out of the box before this weekend nights as this weekend nights in Brisbane is predicted to be the coldest nights of this season by weather bureau.
The winter in brisbane doesn’t stay for long and in fact these days they are usually not as cold as it used to be few years back. This winter we might have enjoyed some mercy from weather so far but not anymore.
Dry and brisk winds are all set to hit southeast Queensland this week followed by chiller weekend and record lows expected.
The Bureau predicts temperatures to drop as low as 6C on Friday and Saturday, and to 5C in the city on Sunday morning.
Senior weather forecaster Rick Threlfall said Brisbane could expect a low of 10C this morning with progressively colder mornings for the rest of the week.
“If we do get down to five degrees on the Sunday, it’s going to be the coldest day of the season so far,” Mr Threlfall said.
“The city saw a low of 5.9C on Monday June 20, the lowest recorded this winter, but it looks like temperatures will drop further.”
Mr Threlfall said the last time it got down to 5C or less was August 12, 2008. He said people could still enjoy a bit of sun but to stay out of the wind.
“A trough is going to clear off the southeast coast early on Tuesday and behind that we’ve got drier southwesterly winds. They’ll be quite fresh and gusty,” he said.
“For the rest of the week it’s going to stay fine and dry with clear skies, the winds will ease off a bit and we’ll see another burst of those southwesterly winds on Thursday.”
The winds would bring dry and frosty conditions.
“It might read 20C or 21C on the forecast but it’s going to feel a lot colder because of the brisk winds,” Mr Threlfall said.
“It takes the moisture off your skin, that’s what makes it feel colder, it’s linked in with the cold front going to the more southern states in Victoria and New South Wales bringing in the snow.
